March Break - Mechanics Sessions 2026
This March Break, we will be offering four days of focused mechanics training. Each day will feature a specific skill emphasis, with athletes being taught all aspects of that skill in detail.
These are not sessions for athletes looking for casual repetitions or unstructured drills. This is a development-based program designed to teach proper mechanics in skating stride, shooting, and puck possession. The focus is on education and understanding, allowing athletes to build strong foundations and improve their overall performance.
Each session is 1 hour long and morning/mid day at Canada Games Park. All info. provided on registration page.

First Session: 2012-2018 Second Session: 2010-2016
Monday: 10:15 am and 11:15 am (Skating Mechanics - Forwards)
Tuesday: 9:45 am and 10:45 am (Shooting Mechanics)
Wednesday: 11:45 am and 12:45 pm (Stickhandling/Passing Mechanics)
Thursday: 10:15 am and 11:15 am (Skating Mechanics - Backwards)
Monday – Stride Mechanics (Forward Skating)
These sessions focus on each athlete’s individual skating mechanics, including ankle flexion, drive force, edge control, and overall skate performance. Athletes will develop quick, powerful strides while progressing toward improved stride efficiency and stride length.
Tuesday – Shooting Mechanics
These sessions will use station-based drills to teach all aspects of shooting mechanics, including proper grip technique, weight transfer, and shot execution. Athletes will learn forehand and backhand puck elevation, snap and whip releases, and in-tight finishing skills. Instruction will also cover aiming fundamentals, including how to read targets, adjust shot angles, and control shot placement.
Wednesday – Stickhandling & Passing Mechanics
Athletes will be taught proper pass-reception mechanics with an emphasis on control and timing. Instruction will focus on different passing presentations and grips, including the golf grip, while reinforcing proper body-to-hand separation. Players will learn how to present a full blade to create clear, accurate passing targets.
Stickhandling instruction will emphasize effective blade usage, teaching the three blade zones on both the forehand and backhand. Athletes will learn how each zone impacts puck control, passing, and shooting, as well as how to handle the puck across their body to maximize reach, range, and control.
Thursday – Stride Mechanics (Backward Skating)
These sessions focus on backward skating mechanics, including ankle flexion, drive force, edge control, and overall skate performance. Athletes will develop stronger, more efficient backward strides while improving balance, control, and stride length.
